Real Wedding - Sophie & Tom

We got married at The Pumping House in Nottinghamshire. We chose it because it's close to where we met, and our families are spread all over the country so it made sense for us. We were looking for a venue with industrial vibes because we really like that style.

We had been looking at all sorts of venues and The Pumping House really fit with our vision!

The first thing we booked was the registrar. After we had that in place it actually felt real!

I found my dress on day one of dress shopping. I thought I had found my dress in the first shop, and didn't want to go to another shop and try on more dresses. But I actually found my dress in the second shop - at The Farnham Boutique - so I'm really glad I did have that second appointment booked that day!

I knew I had found 'the one' because I felt like I could go in any bridal shop and not worry that I'd see something better. I knew there was nothing out there that would beat it!

One of my favourite parts of the day was having a pre-ceremony photoshoot. We had our couple photos before our wedding ceremony. We partly did this because we had a 3pm ceremony in November, and we didn't want to worry about light levels. But now that I've done it, I'd tell anyone else to do the same! It meant that in our drinks reception we had time to talk to all our guests, and have plenty of time for group pics too. And we had a solid hour of lovely dreamy photos as a result, with no time pressure on it.

Another highlight was our ceremony readings. They went down so well with the guests! We chose Love In The Age of Google by Brian Bilston and I Wanna Be Yours by John Cooper Clarke. Both got laughs, and it helped us to relax in the ceremony.

We chose to "Host a roast" for our wedding breakfast, which meant that one person on each table was nominated to wear a hat and apron, and carve the meat for the rest of the table. It was so fun seeing everyone's reactions when the aprons and hats were given out one by one, as they slowly realised what was happening and found out who was going to be nominated on their table.

As a couple we love movies and especially horrors. We made a seating plan which looked like cinema listings of scary movies, and our wedding favours were boxes of popcorn. We had so many compliments about it from guests.

My best advice to other couples would be to try to pause just to take it all in because the day goes by so quickly!

Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us, Sophie!
